So what did you eat last week? I ate bananas. Like 100 of them.
And the weirdest part? I liked it!
Eating only bananas is a mono fruit diet called Banana Island. I first heard about it a year or so ago, and I thought it was crazy, but after looking into it a little more, I decided to give it a try.
Check out my latest video for all the info on how and why I did Banana Island and my thoughts on it. I made this video on the weekend, so ignore the “Have a good weekend” part at the end :p
A few things I didn’t mention in the video:
-Women are supposed to eat about 25 bananas per day and men about 35. The first two days, I couldn’t manage to eat any more than 15. I was so full from that!! (and I normally eat a pretty decent amount of food). By the last two days I was eating closer to 20+. I think my body just got used to it or something.
-I made this video on Day 4 (i.e. my last day) of Banana Island. The next day though, I was craving more bananas, so I had a banana smoothie for breakfast and dinner and had a regular meal at lunch.
-I’ve never done a detox and not had sugar cravings! Obviously I was having a lot of sugar from the bananas, but that’s a good kind of sugar, and now that it’s over I have no sugar cravings, which is so rare for me.
-I’ll mention weight loss just because that’s a common question when it comes to detoxing. I don’t use a scale, and this detox isn’t geared towards weight loss (that’s why you eat so many bananas- you’re meant to take in a normal amount of calories), so I’m not really sure if I lost weight or not. However, I do feel better, and that’s the main thing I think!
Banana Island is part of a larger two week detox that I mentioned I’d be doing in my “Movember” goals. The Island was a kick start and now I’m continuing the rest of the two weeks with a less intense but still ultra healthy diet of mainly fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, my supplements, and a bit of grains. Oh and my daily intake of brie cheese because brie is amazing and non-negotiable.
What I’m not having any of is gluten, sugar, coffee, or processed foods. I’m feeling really great, so I’m very happy about that
In conclusion: Banana Island was very cool, and I think it gave me a really great health boost. I still wouldn’t say it was my favourite detox though, but I’ll be talking all about that one on Thursday (and including a days worth of recipes!).
Curious about Banana Island? Just freeze 5 bananas and then blend them up with water and see what you think!
